Giudecca
The Church of the Zitelle or Santa Maria della Presentazione in Venice: the history, the photographs, the paintings and the works of art preserved inside it, the map and the information to reach it.

Chiesa delle Zitelle VeniceChurch of Zitelle -  Isola della Giudecca, Fondamenta delle Zitelle, Dorsoduro 32 - Venice

The Church of the Zitelle is located on the Giudecca island, within the Dorsoduro district.

The full name is Santa Maria della Presentazione and the complex includes a church, an ancient convent and institute for poor orphans, active since the eighteenth century and famous for the production of precious lace "dot in air".

The formal cleaning of the faade and the references of classical architecture prove Andrea Palladio's participation in the first project, completed by the manufacturer Jacopo Bozzetto in 1586.

The imposing central dome that can be admired from the foundations of the Zattere, rests inside on heavy Corinthian columns that are in agreement with the eighteenth-century alterations that the church has undergone. The temple of the Zitelle boasts an altarpiece by Jacopo Palma il Giovane (The prayer in the garden) and on the high altar The Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple whose attribution is uncertain between Francesco and Leandro Bassano.
