Church of Sant'Eufemia - Fondamenta Sant'Eufemia, Dorsoduro 679 - Venice
The Church of Sant'Eufemia is located in Fondamenta Sant'Eufemia on the Giudecca island, within the Dorsoduro district.
The church of the ancient Venetian-Byzantine foundation of the ninth century underwent numerous restorations, last an eighteenth-century intervention that significantly modified the faade and the interior where stucco was applied both in the central nave and in the vaults of the ceiling.
On the same occasion the previous altarpieces were replaced with works by contemporary artists: Jesus among the doctors of Francesco Cappella, The Visitation of the Virgin of the Canal (1771) and two fundamental works for the Marieschi catalog (Birth of Christ and Adoration of the magi) but they are no longer on site.
The ceiling, frescoed by the Tiepolesco style, tells episodes of the life of Sant'Eufemia. The sculptural group by Gianmaria Morleiter (marble, 18th century) with the Virgin with Christ on the knees on the last altar to the left of the nave must certainly be mentioned.
