Architectural description of the Church of San Simeone Grande

Also known as San Simeone Grande, it was founded in the 10th century and subsequently restored several times.

The most curious intervention dates back to the eighteenth century when a new floor was raised above the previous by the order of health as in the church had been buried a plague. Although the legend is not credible, the restoration of 1839 confirmed the existence of an ancient floor full of seals.

Immediately in the altar next to the entrance we find the Presentation to the Temple by Jacopo Palma il Giovane, an altarpiece that originally decorated the high altar. The Lying Statue of Simone Profeta - from which the church takes its name - is considered the work of Marco Romano.
