Murano

Murano is a characteristic centre located to the north of Venice, built on seven islets in the lagoon connected by bridges.
Asylum and refuge for refugees from the mainland to find refuge from barbarian invasions, Murano, whose old name is AMURANIUM, grew in prosperity and reached its splendor in the 16th century. It was always the center that maintained administrative autonomy from Venice, enjoying an administrative local government and taking advantage of its ancient statutes since 1272 under the rule of a podestà.

Burano

Burano is a characteristic fishing centre, built on four islands of the lagoon connected by bridges.
One of the main characteristics of the island is that of the polychrome of the small houses: a tradition perhaps born as a reaction to the humid and foggy climate that characterizes these lagoon places. One of the hypotheses for the choice of bright colors is in fact the need to recognize your home at night by returning home on a cold foggy night.

Torcello

Torcello is an ancient center of the northern lagoon that flourished in the Middle Ages until Venice took commercial dominance of the lagoon area. It has few residents, but is frequented by thousands of tourists every year.

Housing centre since the 5th / 7th century as a result of the invasions before the Huns and then the Longobards: there the fugitives from the city of Altino found refuge. The name of the island probably derives from TURRICELLUM (the tower erected in memory of the Lost Homeland). In 638 the bishop of Altino moved the sacred relics here and from that moment the history of Torcello continued to exist until the end of the Republic. It had an autonomous government, with Podestà and Council, where the wool industry was practiced.
